Northern Polar Map using the Near Sided Perspective Projection
KML and GeoRSS overlays are disabled for this projection because it is not currently supported by the proj4js library. proj4js is used by OpenLayers to re-project data.
The Near Sided Perspective Projection is very similar to the Orthographic Projection but it is a true perspective projection with a finite observation height. This is no longer a parallel projection. As such, it is the same as a view from space. The above example has an observation height of 7000km. Therefore the result is a equivalent to a view of Earth from a height of 7000km in space. Note that the limit of the projection (the 'horizon') is NOT the equator, hence the graticule's angular shape around the horizon. Further information can be found on the Near Sided Perspective Projection information page.
